Widevine Technologies Announces Global Reseller Agreement with Alcatel27 January 2005
Widevine(R) Technologies, the largest provider of content security solutions to the video over xDSL and Fiber to the Home (FTTH) market, today announced that it has entered into a global reseller agreement with Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA). The agreement enables Alcatel, in conjunction with Widevine, to sell, service and support the Widevine Cypher(R) technology-Virtual SmartCard(TM) and Application Level encryption-on a global basis. The Widevine Virtual SmartCard solution is the most deployed content security solution in the TVoDSL and FTTH markets. Based upon its innovative Virtual SmartCard, the solution significantly lowers the costs of securing content over video networks while dramatically raising the bar on piracy. The Widevine technology offers service providers a fully integrated, end-to-end, video security solution. "Alcatel has shipped millions of DSL lines to leading service providers around the world -- almost four times our closest competitor," said Ivan Verbesselt, vice president of Alcatel's Information, Communication, and Entertainment business activity. "Service providers today require the flexibility to deliver video over any access architecture while fully protecting that content from end-to-end. We believe that Widevine greatly strengthens Alcatel's product portfolio and fully complements existing, best of breed "Alcatel Connected" partnerships." "Alcatel provides a key global partnership for Widevine," said Brian Baker, President and CEO of Widevine Technologies. "The significance of this agreement with Alcatel is that it immediately provides Widevine with a world class partner with corresponding world wide coverage and support." "The cooperation for ChungHwa Telecom was the catalyst for getting this deal done," stated John Hoskins Sr. VP of Marketing and Sales at Widevine Technologies. "The ease at which the products integrated and the seamless operation at the largest VOD deployment in Asia showed the powerful combination our two companies make."
