The Villages Locks Out Mail Threats with SonicWALL Email Security20 April 2006
SonicWALL Inc. (Nasdaq: SNWL), a leading provider of comprehensive network security solutions, today announced that Florida real estate developer, The Villages, has installed SonicWALL Email Security technology to prevent email threats such as spam, phishing, directory harvest attacks and viruses, from blocking the productivity of its 2,000 employees. The Villages has been able to free the network from a flood of junk email, which previously accounted for almost 85% of inbound traffic, making its email systems more reliable and secure. The MailFrontier Gateway Appliance chosen by The Villages is now included in SonicWALL's portfolio of market-leading secure content management offerings as a result of SonicWALL's recent acquisition of MailFrontier. The Villages selected the appliance because of the effectiveness, ease of administration and control it delivers to end users. Located in central Florida, just north of Orlando, The Villages is an active adult community for 55,000 residents focused on providing an active lifestyle for retirees. Email is critical for the organization to efficiently manage its operations. Previously, The Villages used an anti-spam system that took ten hours each week to maintain, but was still ineffective at protecting the organization from unwanted email. Spam-related help desk calls were rising, and the system was frequently crashing, requiring additional support from IT. Facing rising amounts of unwanted email, the developer needed a better solution to protect its users and critical internal systems. "In addition to needing better anti-spam filtering that was easy-to-use, we wanted to have solid email protection at the perimeter," said Brian Marko, server operations engineer for The Villages. "Other solutions we looked at were complicated, and they didn't offer the same positive experience we had with this appliance. We had it up and running in less than an hour, and found it more effective at stopping unwanted email and easier to use than other solutions we evaluated. We've found that 85 percent of inbound email is junk-now it is all blocked at the perimeter." SonicWALL Email Security technology stops email threats like spam and phishing from entering The Villages' internal business systems, and provides comprehensive anti-virus protection with SonicWALL's Time Zero Virus Technology. The developer has also implemented authentication protection, using the Sender ID Framework, to confirm that inbound email is coming from the claimed source-cutting down on email from spoofed domains. "Using SonicWALL Email Security technology to protect our email has made a significant difference for the organization," adds Marko. "Email is reliable now. We've saved hours of IT staff time each week-time that used to be spent managing email problems. The company is also saving storage space and back-ups don't take as much time. Thanks to our new email security defenses, we've redeployed IT resources to improve our disaster recovery plan and other critical activities." About SonicWALL, Inc.
