The Metro Atlanta Chapter of ISSA Announces Phil Zimmermann as the Keynote Speaker for Their 1st Annual Information Security Conference1 November 2005
As a non-profit organization of information security professionals, ISSA continuously works to educate its members and the community on current security issues in today's computing environment. The upcoming 1st Annual Information Security Conference provides such an opportunity.
In his discussion on "Public policy and encryption, from secure email to secure VoIP", Phil Zimmermann of PGP will speak on the public policy issues including legislative and regulatory trends around encryption, the history of PGP, and the future of secure VoIP. Philip R. Zimmermann is the creator of Pretty Good Privacy, an email encryption software package. Originally designed as a human rights tool, PGP was published for free on the Internet in 1991.
Claiming that US export restrictions for cryptographic software were violated when PGP spread worldwide, the government made Zimmermann the target of a three-year criminal investigation. Despite government persecution and the lack of funding, paid staff, or a company to stand behind it, PGP persevered, becoming the most widely used email encryption software in the world. After the government dropped its case in early 1996, Zimmermann founded PGP Inc. Zimmermann continues his contributions to the information security community today as he shares his unique perspective on legislative and regulatory trends at the ISSA conference November 9th. In addition to the keynote speech, experts from across the nation will be sharing their in-depth expertise in information security related areas, including The Technical Side of Security, Security Management,
Auditing and Compliance, Emerging Security Technologies. Registrants will be able to choose from fifteen different topics and attend five one-hour sessions. The Conference will run from 7:30 AM - 4:45 PM on November 9th in the GCATT building at Georgia Tech. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided. Early registration for the event runs through October 27, and discounted registration is being offered to students and members of the following organizations: ISSA, ISACA, IISFA, HTCIA, and GAPPI.
