delivering business continuity and saving time for IT administrators."

Enhancing Data Security

Organizations are increasingly focusing on the security of the data they are backing up or moving off-site for long-term protection or disaster recovery purposes. Symantec Backup Exec 11d provides 128-bit and 256-bit AES encryption to protect data when it is being backed up. Data can either be encrypted at the client-side to ensure protection when moving across a corporate network, or when copied from a disk-based backup to tape media.

Backup Exec 11d extends platform support to full protection of x64-bit Windows environments, adding x64-bit support for Backup Exec media servers to the previously supported x64-bit protected clients or servers. Backup Exec 11d also introduces NDMP support enabling the protection of NetApp® Filers, as well as support for Oracle RMAN/RAC, IBM DB2, MAC OSX (PowerPC), HP-UX, Solaris 10, and SUSE 10.0 Clients.

American Portwell Protects Intellectual Property, Enhances Productivity with Backup Exec 11d

American Portwell is using Symantec Backup Exec 11d to streamline IT processes, centralize backup and recovery for its business critical information, and minimize costs.

"Dell continues to partner with Symantec because of a shared vision of simplifying datacenter operations through standards. Dell has been partnering with Symantec for over five years to deliver Symantec solutions and the synchronous launch of Backup Exec 11d is a testament to a commitment to delivering tightly integrated data protection solutions that drive value for our customers," said Judy Chavis, director, Dell business development and global alliances. Dell extensively tests and qualifies Symantec Backup Exec 11d on Dell PowerEdge servers and PowerVault storage.

"Everyone wants to conduct granular Exchange backups on a regular basis, but up until now, the tools to do that were time-consuming and unfriendly," said Robert Simpson, chief technology officer and part owner, Systems Design Group, Inc., a Symantec Platinum Partner headquartered in Lexington, KY. "Symantec Backup Exec 11d will allow us to be more efficient when performing this type of Exchange backup, eliminating the time needed to perform individual mailbox backups but still allowing recovery on a granular level. And it handles all aspects of data retention, which is especially important for our clients that need to comply with industry regulations."
