Symantec's latest InternetSecurity Threat Report (http://www.symantec.com/threatreport.com) indicatescontinued cybercrime momentum, specifically finding that eighty percent ofthe top 50 malicious code samples could reveal important confidentialinformation needed to facilitating criminal activity for financial gain.

To better protect against evolving spyware techniques, the new Symantecsolution offers constantly updated detection and removal capabilities via adownloadable anti-spyware engine, helping to ensure that desktop clientshave the new software they need without requiring a full update.Organizations can rapidly deploy immediate protection against changing andcomplicated risks such as rootkits, randomized name risks, and persistentrisks that attempt to re-install themselves. Symantec AntiVirusproactively blocks installation of software that creates a security risk, stopping adware, spyware, and other malware. This prevents sophisticatedattacks from gaining any access onto a computer, reducing costly manualclean-up. These added capabilities, coupled with Symantec's ability todeliver security updates automatically via LiveUpdate technology, makeSymantec AntiVirus the leading enterprise security solution on the markettoday.

"The advanced virus protection and robust monitoring tools in the latestversions of Symantec's Client Security and AntiVirus solutions offer us thescalability, control, and comfort we need to ensure our customers'information and transactions are safe and secure," said LarryHargrave, chief IT director at Hemenway Business Service, a business andfinancial services firm based in Owosso, Michigan. Administrators can set email alerts for virusoutbreaks and new virus events. The alerts provide a hyperlink forimmediate access to detailed reports for event troubleshooting down tospecific servers or client groups.

"Attackers used to be motivated by fame and notoriety, but today'sattackers are more covert, forcing organizations to deal with the addedchallenge of detecting stealthy attacks designed to quietly steal criticalinformation," said Brian Foster, senior director of product management forSymantec Endpoint Security. "Symantec's enhanced detection capabilitiesand reporting tools are vital in this changing threat landscape, helpingorganizations better understand and isolate malicious code and spywareactivities to help prevent a potential security breach."

For added insight about the full impact of spyware to an organization,Symantec now offers a Risk Impact Matrix that provides end-users andadministrators a clear view into the impact that a security risk will haveon a computer. Leveraging Symantec's Response group and their analysis ofrisk profiles, these impact ratings highlight privacy impact, performanceimpact, stealth rating, removal rating, dependent programs, and an overallrating. Administrators can also add a risk exclusion to better customizeand make informed risk decisions to increase protection against cybercrimeactivities, reduce potential exposure of sensitive customer information, and help preserve the performance of system assets.
