SplashData Enables PC and Mac Users to Manage Passwords with New SplashID Desktop Edition

1 September 2006

SplashData, Inc., the leading provider of mobile productivity software, today announced that its popular SplashID smartphone application for securely organizing and managing passwords is now available for desktop users. SplashID Desktop Edition enables Windows PC and Mac users to store, sort and organize all of their confidential information easily on their desktop. With an installed base of over 500,000 users for SplashID's existing mobile versions, a desktop-only version was a natural next step for SplashData's product line.

"Over the years, we have received numerous requests to make SplashID's companion software available in a stand-alone desktop version for people who do not have smartphones," said Morgan Slain, CEO of SplashData. "We see the new Desktop Edition as a great opportunity to bring the benefits of SplashID to anyone who needs a way to organize and protect all of their passwords and other records."

SplashID allows users to store an unlimited number of customizable records (such as passwords, credit card numbers, registration codes, membership numbers, insurance information and even birthdays) securely on their desktop or notebook computers. Its 256-bit Blowfish encryption provides proven protection for keeping records secure. SplashID adds an extra layer of security, as its password generator creates new, unique passwords based on criteria selected by the user.

"I learned the hard way that using the same username and password over and over again for different Web sites was not the best idea," said Amy Stewart, a real estate agent in Windsor, California. "I was looking for a way to keep track of dozens of passwords securely on my notebook computer. I found SplashID to be not only the perfect solution for passwords, but a great way to manage information for bank and brokerage accounts, insurance policies, memberships, warranties, registrations, and other confidential records."

SplashID Desktop Edition allows users to mask their information from the view of others, store an unlimited number of records, and share information with family members or colleagues. SplashID Desktop Edition features a number of customizable options, such as icons that enable users to quickly sort and locate information. For those who are new to SplashID, the Desktop Edition features an on-screen guide that introduces the software's key features.

SplashID Desktop Edition is available for download from http://www.splashdata.com for $19.95 and supports Windows 98, ME, NT4, 2000 or XP and Mac OS 10.2 or higher. SplashID Desktop Edition can be easily upgraded at any time to a version that synchronizes with a smartphone for $9.95.
