SkyView Partners Introduces Policy Minder

25 September 2005

SkyView Partners today announced a new security policy compliance product called SkyView Policy Minder for OS/400 and i5/OS.

“The next logical step in the evolution of the security discipline facing iSeries shops is maintaining compliance with corporate security policies. SOX, Visa PCI, HIPAA etc. have caused everyone to stop and re-examine security on all their systems including the iSeries. The auditors have come in and focused on policy and procedure. New security policies have sprung up where none existed before. It’s now the responsibility of the system administrators and IT departments to make sure they are in compliance with these policies and provide proof to the auditors. System Administrators find themselves taking hours of time and lots of resource just to make sure policies are enforced and implemented properly. The tasks range from checking configurations to repairing problems as they arise on everything from library authorities, to directory authorities, to system values, to user profile configurations and more,” said Carol Woodbury, Co-Founder and President of SkyView Partners, Inc.“ That’s what gave rise to SkyView Policy Minder. Rather than spend the hours, Policy Minder checks compliance with security policy - in one easy step - without all the hassle. The next big wave in security, as everyone passes through their first SOX or Visa PCI audit, is making sure that as a company, you maintain compliance with your stated security policies.”

“With Risk Assessor we got to see how our system stacked up versus security best practices. Risk Assessor saved us multiple times with our auditors. We’ve used the Risk Assessor reports to establish our corporate security policy when it comes to the iSeries” says Roy Rozgo, Sr. Project Leader for Wellmark International. “With SkyView’s new Policy Minder we can monitor and fix our security configuration automatically without spending hours on that task.”

SkyView Policy Minder includes an initialize function that will populate many of the details of your security policy from your current configuration. You can choose to accept or change any of those policy details. In addition, with Policy Minder you can establish and check user profile settings, library authorities, file authorities, directory authorities and many other items including security system values. Once established you can run a compliance check that will show you results either on screen or through reports. The results let you quickly determine whether or not you are in compliance. If you aren’t in compliance you can drill down to the detail level and see the issues. The product also features a “fix-it” option to correct many items, automatically.

“The level of detail covered by Policy Minder is impressive. The ability to check compliance is great, but the fact that you can, for example, create a template for user profile settings and see who has more authority than they should, or you can create a library and file policy template and quickly see whether these files are secured appropriately makes this a tool that you quickly begin to rely on from a systems management point of view,” noted Brian Hole of Les Schwab Tire Centers. Brian is the Supervisor of Customer Technology Services and is responsible for taking care of all iSeries hardware, email, and retail computer hardware integration.

SkyView Policy Minder is scheduled for general availability in late October of 2005.
