silex technology america Debuts SecurePrint-TM - For My Eyes Only Printing

9 December 2004

silex technology america, Inc. today announced it was nominated for both the Best Government Solution and Best Government Vendor award during its first showing at the Government Solution Summit in Bonita Springs, Florida on December 1-3, 2004. The company
debuted its SecurePrint(TM) solution to government technology system integrators.

The awards are determined by system integrators who attend the summit, and are based upon a company's ability to fulfill the technology requirements of federal, state and local government agencies across the U.S.

SecurePrint(TM), which silex technology america today added to its comprehensive biometrics product line designed to secure complete data and physical access environments, allows companies such as healthcare facilities and government agencies of all sizes to provide 'for my eyes only' secure printing.

"These nominations are indicative of the ever-increasing need for security solutions in the government IT space," said Hillary Carney, event manager for Government Solution Summit. "The 'Best of Government Solution Summit Awards' are significant because they are voted on by federal IT Solution Providers, and recognize the vendors that demonstrate both innovation and leadership in the federal channel."

It is commonplace today that a wide range of workers access, view or work on sensitive documents. The difficulty arises in printing the document. Typically where a printer is shared, once the print command is activated, it becomes a race to the printer to make sure unauthorized eyes do not view the document.

SecurePrint allows an individual to send a document to a printer. The printer, however, will not print the job until the user places his or her pre-enrolled finger on the fingerprint reader at the printer. Once this is done, all the users' queued documents print out creating the "For my eyes
only" privacy that workers, managers and executives need when utilizing a network printer.

"Privacy and security of business documents and records is a top-priority among businesses today-emphasized even more by HIPPA and The Sarbanes-Oxley Act, designed to control access to sensitive information," said David Smith, president of silex technology america. "SecurePrint(TM) ensures that confidential and secure documents are viewed only by those authorized to do so when they emerge from the printer."

SecurePrint(TM) is easy to integrate and use in government agencies and corporations including hospitals, doctors' offices, banks and financial offices, insurance companies, legal and human resource departments, and accounting firms. SecurePrint(TM) helps businesses become HIPPA and Sarbenes-Oxly compliant. Adding the SecurePrint(TM) hardware and software into the network architecture allows the user to effectively modernize
existing installations.

Users are added to the system by installing the software on each computer and enrolling their fingerprint(s). During the initial enrollment, the software applies the silex algorithm to create a unique pattern of data points taken from the fingerprint of the person touching the reader. The pattern is called minutiae. When the user touches the reader at the printer, the newly
generated minutiae are compared to confirm authentication of the user, then releases the queued document(s) to the printer.

In a workgroup or small office, the minutiae are stored on the target computer. Within a large group or enterprise network, SecurePrint(TM) can also be integrated into an existing server environment. silex technology's roadmap for SecurePrint(TM) includes a dedicated, drop in, appliance server to independently manage enrollment, spooling and the individual's minutiae
data allowing for centralized security control and access by IT professionals.

The system ensures all information within the secure environment is safe while also maintaining individual privacy since the actual fingerprint is not recorded.

Once the user's fingerprint minutiae are pre-enrolled the user only has to touch the reader at the printer. However, if an extra level of security is required, any of silex's fingerprint readers can also be used at each individual computer requiring that a user touch the fingerprint reader at the computer before sending a document to the printer and again at the printer
location to release the document for printing.

SecurePrint(TM)

The basic SecurePrint bundle includes everything needed to implement secure printing within a secure environment. Additional fingerprint readers are also available for multiple users or for additional levels of security.

Each bundle includes:

FUS-200N reader -- A fingerprint reader with USB interface. Connects
directly to the SX-5000U2 for secure printing at the printer. Can also
be used for all desktop and notebook computer applications.
* Meets government standard: 500 dpi resolution for high accuracy and
minutiae creation
* Compact, stylish, and durable.
* Can be used with any one-to-one authentication application.
* Included with SecurePrint(TM) bundle. Extra units are $149 MSRP.

SX-5000U2 -- The SX-5000U2 is a four-port USB device-to-device server
used to connect one FUS-200N fingerprint reader and up to three USB
printers to the network for secure printing.
* USB device resource manager that allows all computer users on the
network to use USB printers, multi-function printers, scanners,
digital card readers, external storage, electronic whiteboard, thumb
drives, or digital cameras
* silex's Web browser administrator manager utilities
* Included in SecurePrint(TM) bundle. Extra units are $229 MSRP

SX-SecurePrint(TM) Software
* SX-SecurePrint(TM) software provides the link between the biometric
environment and the printing function. It can be used in
combination with silex's desktop login and data securing software.
* Developed to run in a Windows environment.
* Allows the user to print out confidential data with their
fingerprint authentication preventing unauthorized viewing of
printed materials where a printer is shared on a network.
* Scalable for a server based network environment with optional
integration.
* Portable to be adapted to non-Window's environments.

Availability

All silex biometric fingerprint readers are available now along with silex's full line of print and device servers. SX-SecurePrint Software will be available in early 2005 through all silex resellers and government solution partners nationwide.
