Precise Biometrics Receives Additonal Order from SafeNet Inc21 December 2004
Precise Biometrics AB, which develops and sells world leading and user-friendly biometric security solutions based on fingerprints, received an additional order for 7,500 of the Precise100 MC fingerprint and smart card readers, and Match-on-Card(TM) software technology from SafeNet Inc. (traded under the Nasdaq symbol SFNT). Precise Biometrics' products are based on the company's in-house developed, patented biometric fingerprint authentication technology. The technology isolates the characteristic features of a human fingerprint, and matches them with a stored template to secure identity. The Precise Match-on-Card(TM) technology makes it possible to store and match fingerprint information directly on a smart card. The solution provides biometrically-enabled secure access to network and desktop resources. The end-user turns on their computer, inserts the Smart ID card and is prompted to place a finger on the biometric sensor. The Smart ID card verifies the card holder's fingerprint and logs on the user.
This order represents a continuation of a deployment to a government agency by SafeNet Inc. and Precise Biometrics. Precise Biometrics received the two previous orders from Datakey, Inc., recently acquired by SafeNet. The government agency is deploying SafeNet smart cards and related software along with Precise Biometrics readers to authenticate employees to the IT infrastructure.
SafeNet's focus on delivering secure, easy-to-use and cost effective identity management and smart card authentication to large federal, financial, and enterprise organizations lends itself to using Precise Biometrics products. "We are very pleased to have received this order from SafeNet, said Christer Bergman, President and CEO, Precise Biometrics AB. "We take this as further evidence that the Precise Match-on-Card(TM) technology, which makes it possible to store and match fingerprint information directly on a smart card, significantly improves IT security while reducing cost and increasing customer satisfaction." The majority of the combined fingerprint and smart card readers from Precise Biometrics will be delivered within this quarter.
