Netsweeper Announces New Premium Parental Controls Internet Filter

19 October 2005

Netsweeper Inc., a leading
provider of Internet filtering and security technology, today announced a
significant update to the Netsweeper Premium Parental Controls content
filtering product. In particular, the new release puts web-based controls into
a parent's hands to manage and report on home Internet activity by individual
user from anywhere, anytime.
Netsweeper Premium Parental Controls includes time-based controls for
categories of content and for Instant Messaging, Voice over Internet, and
File-sharing software. The new web-based Premium Parental Controls
capabilities will also be incorporated into the Netsweeper Enhanced Security
Suite, which integrates best-of-breed desktop firewall, anti-virus and
anti-spyware software into one solution.
Netsweeper partners with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) around the
world to provide the most advanced web content filtering solution for their
customers, including residential, corporate and public sector markets.
Netsweeper currently protects over 5 million end users globally, with a
network-based solution incorporating Artificial Intelligence technology and a
database of 550 million url's. This translates to the most accurate and up to
date filtering possible with a small percentage of false positives.
The new Netsweeper Parental Controls solution is key for ISP's who wish
to market premium value-added services to their residential subscribers,
arriving at a time when parent concerns over the online safety of children is
mounting: A survey this year by Pew and American Life Project titled
"Protecting Teens Online" revealed that "65% of all parents and 64% of all
teens say that teens do things online that they wouldn't want their parents to
know about". Parents increasingly believe that some form of protection is
necessary as "use of filters in families with teens has grown 65% in four
years, from around 7 million users at the end of 2000, to close to 12 million
today."
The new white-label Netsweeper Premium Parental Controls solution enables
ISPs to differentiate their services, promoting an image of social
responsibility, while improving customer loyalty and reducing churn.
Importantly, the solution puts the ultimate decision making and administrative
process in the hands of parents, where previously the ISP was responsible for
dealing with the administration of the filter and what was allowed or denied -
an issue often contentious with ISPs who do not want to appear as agents of
censorship.
Contributing to the return on investment for the ISP is the inherent
preventative maintenance benefit of better endpoint security. "Parents wish to
protect their families, and ISPs want to protect their networks and
subscribers." explains Perry Roach, CEO of Netsweeper. "Our Premium Parental
Controls and Enhanced Security Suite products serve this dual purpose well,
providing endpoint security that reduces the inbound spyware, viruses and
malware that can cause significant support calls and decreased profit for
ISPs."
