NETGEAR and Trend Micro Join Forces to Deliver Integrated Network Security

10 March 2005

NETGEAR(R), Inc (Nasdaq: NTGR) a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded
networking products, and Trend Micro, Inc. (Nasdaq: TMIC; TSE: 4704), a leader in network antivirus and Internet content security products and services, today announced a partnership agreement that will provide both home and small business customers globally with cost effective, advanced networking infrastructure devices complete with comprehensive antivirus, anti-spyware, and anti-spam network security solutions for a simplified and secure Internet
experience. NETGEAR products are on display in Hall 15, Stand C06 of the Hannover Exhibition Hall from March 10-16th.

The presence of "always on" broadband connections mean computer systems and valuable personal information are vulnerable to threats at any time. These complete security and networking solutions will meet the needs of Internet users at risk not only from computer viruses, many of which propagate via email, but also from other threats and nuisances, such as spam, spyware, hackers, and illicit Web content.

The first collaborative solution will be the integration of Trend Micro(TM) Home Network Security with NETGEAR's wireless and broadband firewall routers for the home. NETGEAR will demonstrate this integrated product at CeBIT, one of the world's leading showplaces for information technology and telecommunications. This integrated offering will be the first of several collaborative efforts NETGEAR is spearheading to incorporate leading security
into their consumer and small-to-medium business networking products. NETGEAR will also be providing advanced "business-class" network security functionality in its ProSafe(TM) line of business networking solutions with Trend Micro Client/ Server/Messaging Suite for SMB and Client/Server Suite for SMB. These solutions offer the simplified management, reporting, and
comprehensive threat protection demanded by business networks.

"More and more PC users are becoming part of a multi-device home network and are connected to the Internet and each other through routers and residential gateways," said Mike Wolf, Residential Connectivity expert for In-Stat/MDR. "With that level of connectivity, however, come all the security pitfalls that have plagued the Internet. By integrating their offerings,
networking device makers and security software vendors like NETGEAR and Trend Micro are keeping users one step ahead of imminent threats with proactive, all-in-one, secure networking solutions."

"In our constant pursuit of providing faster, more reliable home and small business networking devices, security is an important element of our customers' Internet experience and network performance," said Patrick Lo, CEO of NETGEAR. "Through this partnership with Trend Micro, NETGEAR is able to bring customers a simple and cost-effective solution to a variety of Internet concerns."

Trend Micro Home Network Security service complements the wireless security and firewall capabilities of NETGEAR home routers. With this integrated device, home network users can leverage router-managed security assessment, antivirus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, customized Web filtering, and parental control capabilities to help ensure a secure and more uninterrupted
Internet experience. For the NETGEAR line of ProSafe routers for small and medium business, Trend Micro will complement the business class VPN, firewall, and enterprise-grade wireless security capabilities already found in NETGEAR solutions with enhanced network security capabilities of the Trend Micro suites for SMB.

"Trend Micro already protects millions of enterprise end users in the corporate, government, and educational space through security built into the network level. Through our partnership, NETGEAR customers can bring Trend Micro's expert security services and support into their homes and small businesses," said Raimund Genes, President European Operations for Trend
Micro. "Together, our companies are addressing the challenge of making the Internet readily accessible to everyone on the home network, while keeping computer activities like email, games, and Internet browsing available and safe for everyone."

Following a brief download and activation sequence integrated with NETGEAR home routers, Trend Micro Home Network Security service begins as a 60-day free trial. For less than the cost of individual software copies, up to 9 home PCs can be protected through a single annual subscription purchased online through Trend Micro. As a bonus, the Parental Control Service is
offered free for the first 12 months. For business customers, Trend MicroClient/Server/Messaging or Client/Server Suites for SMB will be shipping as a 60-day free trial, with select ProSafe routers in Q2 2005.
