Mississippi State University Filters E-Mail While Upholding Individual Freedoms3 May 2005
Mississippi State University has evaluated and selected Roaring Penguin Software’s CanIt-PRO anti-spam solution to stop unwanted e-mail from reaching its campus. The solution now protects more than 20,000 students and staff at Mississippi State from the thousands of spam, virus, and malformed messages that hit the university's mail servers every day.
Tim Griffin, Director of ITS Systems and Networks at Mississippi State, said, “We chose Roaring Penguin’s CanIt-PRO because it provides us with exactly the flexibility we need to combat junk e-mail. Over the past two years, we looked at a number of anti-spam solutions, but none allowed our end-users to individually customize filtering policies for their email addresses. Mississippi State University extensively tested CanIt-PRO and chose the solution primarily for the level of configuration the product provides and for its stability and scalability. The spam wasn't being delivered evenly across campus, so any solution we picked had to be able to understand and accommodate that. Also, we had to be very, very careful to preserve academic freedom.”
