IDG's PCWorld.com Wins Second Consecutive Neal Award for Best Web Site20 March 2005
In ceremonies held earlier this week, PCWorld.com was named Best Web Site at the 51st Annual Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards in New York. This is the second year in a row PCWorld.com has been victorious in this category. Sponsored by the American Business Media (ABM), the Neal Awards recognize superiority in business publishing and are heralded as the "Pulitzer Prize of the business press."
"We're ecstatic to bring home the Neal Award for Best Web Site for the second straight year," declared Ramon "Bud" McLeod, editor of PCWorld.com. "The innovation, enthusiasm, commitment, and spirit of the editorial and design teams have truly earned this recognition for continuing to carry out our editorial mission of providing trusted technology advice to users. Congratulations to everyone involved!"
Written and designed for Tech-Savvy Managers, PCWorld.com merges magazine content with exclusive online-only features, reviews, and news. Two Weblogs (blogs) debuted over the past year: "Techlog," authored by Editor in Chief Harry McCracken and "Today @ PC World," written by various members of the editorial team. Four major information centers, focusing on Spam, Spyware, Privacy, and Networking for Small Businesses have also been added to the site. In a continuing effort to provide cutting-edge tools to visitors, PCWorld.com has expanded interactive offerings with Hotspot Finder, which helps travelers find Wi-Fi hotspots away from the office, and Bargain Finder, aimed at cost- conscious buyers looking for deals on tech products.
In a year-over-year comparison, PCWorld.com has grown 26% in average unique visitors per month to 5.3 million, and average monthly page views have increased 23% to 35.5 million.(1) And, since 2003, PCWorld.com has provided content to all three major online portals: AOL's Computer Center and Shopping channel, the MSN Tech & Gadgets channel, and Yahoo! Shopping and their Tech Tuesday section. A content partnership with the WashingtonPost.com is the latest addition to this growing list.
PCWorld.com recently launched a section of the site devoted to the upcoming new public television series 'PC World's Digital Duo' (http://www.pcworld.com/digitalduo). The guide to all things digital will provide commentary on business and consumer technology products and services in an entertaining, educational manner. The series is currently in production in Seattle and will be available for broadcast throughout the country in April.
Paying tribute to all the winners, ABM's President & CEO Gordon T. Hughes II said, "These journalists and editors deserve high praise indeed. Their expertise, skill, and successful track records of informing the industry on issues of importance place them at the forefront of their fields."
The Neal Awards recognize and reward editorial excellence in business publications. The judging panel, chaired by Marshall Loeb, columnist, Marketwatch.com, selected 27 Neal Award winners out of 81 finalists from an original 1,168 entries.
