Guidance Software Names Former McAfee Financial Chief Stephen Richards to Board of Directors27 February 2006
Guidance Software, the world leader in computer investigations, announced today that it has added former McAfee, Inc. chief operating officer and chief financial officer, Stephen C. Richards to its board of directors. Richards' experience overseeing the operations and finances of growing companies in the high technology space will be a valuable asset to Guidance as it prepares for expansion in a number of key markets this year. Richards was the chief financial officer when he joined McAfee, Inc. in 2001, and added the chief operating officer role to his title in November of that year. He oversaw numerous acquisitions during his four-year tenure, including Intruvert and Enterept intrusion prevention technologies, and Foundstone which offers vulnerability assessment technology. Richards was also instrumental in strategic divestitures of three business units that brought more focus and direction to the company in the intrusion prevention and security risk management business. Before joining McAfee, Richards was the CFO of E*TRADE Group, Inc. where he guided the company through its $50 million initial public offering and raised another $600 million through a secondary offering and a private placement with Softbank Corporation. He oversaw the company's financials through the Internet boom when it experienced the largest growth in its history and secured strategic alliances with Yahoo! and AOL as well as major investments like the Archipelago ECN and the International Securities Exchange. "Steve's addition to the Guidance board of directors is important because of the unique insight and years of knowledge he brings to the position after overseeing the financial growth of some of the nation's most respected technology companies," said Guidance CEO John Colbert. "Guidance is positioned for dramatic growth in the coming year and we hope to tap into Steve's experience to help us during this exciting time in our company's evolution." Richards was the managing director, assistant corporate controller and chief financial officer of the Correspondent Clearing division at The Bear Stearns Companies from 1984 to 1996. Previously, he was an assistant controller for A.G Becker/Paribas, moving over from the Jefferies Group, Inc. Richards started his career as an auditor with Coopers & Lybrand (now Price Waterhouse Coopers). He received his MBA from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA and his B.A in Statistics and Economics from UC Davis. Mr. Richards is a certified public accountant.
