Grisoft, Developer of AVG Anti-Virus, Named to Anti-Spyware Coalition18 December 2005
Grisoft, Inc., the maker of award-winning AVG Anti-Virus software, has been accepted as a member of the Anti-Spyware Coalition (ASC), a diverse organization dedicated to building a consensus and creating best practices to define and control spyware and other disruptive technologies. Peter Lipa, President of Grisoft, Inc., made the announcement. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20041130/NYTU005LOGO ) "As an ASC member, Grisoft plans to serve the public good by helping the organization achieve its goals and contribute to consumer education," according to Lipa. The ASC (antispywarecoalition.org) is composed of anti-spyware software companies, academics, and public policy and consumer groups united in their efforts to combat spyware and other potentially unwanted programs that clog computers and endanger Internet communications. "At Grisoft, we view the ASC as part of a larger security picture that is no longer clearly defined by separate categories -- anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, and so on," Lipa said. "So, we see ASC membership as a natural extension of our anti-virus expertise and other initiatives we've already undertaken." Membership in the ASC is limited to public interest groups and companies that design or distribute legitimate anti-spyware technologies. Applicants are reviewed and must be approved by the entire ASC membership.
