Eugene School District Rolls Out Roving Planet to Secure District-Wide WLAN Initiative

24 February 2005

Roving Planet, a leading provider of integrated wireless LAN security and management solutions, today announced that Eugene School District in Oregon, with over 40 schools, has selected Roving Planet's integrated software suite to secure, manage and monitor its wireless network infrastructure.

Eugene School District (ESD) required a central management solution to securely deploy Wi-Fi at their schools. Teachers are initially using the wireless network to stay connected with administrative and educational resources throughout the school system. With Roving Planet, the central IT department can centrally monitor each individual school down to the users, access points, and devices. Using Roving Planet's software solution to set security policies across the entire school district, ESD plans to provide wireless services for students, staff, parents, and guests.

"We needed to provide secure wireless services to our educators, and with Roving Planet we can additionally manage new uses for students and guests," said Mike Scolla, Network Services Manager for Eugene School District. "A central management tool that can scale to meet the needs of our District was a key requirement for us, and Roving Planet does just that."

"We are focused on bringing security and management solutions to K-12 school districts," stated Greg Mesch, President and CEO of Roving Planet. "Our architecture is perfectly suited to provide centralized, secure management of wireless networks, facilitate network monitoring, deliver audit trails, and deliver reports showing bandwidth utilization patterns."
