Entrust Supports Release of Cyber Security Industry Alliance Report Card and 2006 Agenda

14 December 2005

Entrust, Inc. (Nasdaq: ENTU), a world leader in securing digital identities and information, today welcomed the release of the Cyber Security Industry Alliance's (CSIA) policy agenda for 2006, as well as a report card assessing the federal government's progress in protecting the nation against online security threats. Entrust is a member of CSIA.
The report card, which grades federal agencies on their follow through on last year's recommendations in the President's National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace, gives the Administration and Congress a grade of D or below on 7 of the 12 recommendations and a grade of C on four others. The report card commends the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for recommendation ratification of the Council of Europe's Convention on Cybercrime.
"With the amount of attention focused on this issue these past few years, this performance leaves significant room for improvement, especially relative to the increase in identity theft and cyber crime," said Bill Conner, Chairman, President, and CEO of Entrust. "This time next year, we need to be recognizing 2006 as a key year for action and improvement, reversing the alarming trends in consumer confidence."
Conner welcomed the inclusion of several key priorities in CSIA's 2006 agenda, including passage of national data breach notification and spyware protections bills; filling the new cyber security position in the Department of Homeland Security; and implementing Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12), which establishes authentication procedures across the federal government. For more information on the agenda and report card, visit http://www.csialliance.org .
Conner also noted CSIA's introduction of a new "Digital Confidence Index" assessing consumer confidence in six key areas, highlighting that the results are similar to a November study commissioned by Entrust and conducted by InfoSurv, Inc., an independent research firm. That survey found that 18 percent of respondents had decreased their use of online banking or have stopped banking online completely in the past 12 months due to concerns regarding the security of their online identity, and that 94% of consumers were willing to use additional security measures such as strong authentication when banking online.
