Department of Homeland Security Selects Websense to Provide Secure Internet Use for 40,000 Employees27 May 2005
Websense, Inc. (NASDAQ: WBSN), the world’s leading provider of employee internet management solutions, today announced that the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has selected Websense® software to enable a broad range of protection for its Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) division with 40,000 employees. This adds DHS to a growing list of major U.S. government agencies and departments currently using Websense software, which includes the Army, Air Force, Navy, Internal Revenue Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and National Institute of Health.
The DHS chose Websense Enterprise® software to manage employee web access and protect their networks from emerging threats such as spyware, viruses, and malicious mobile code. In addition, Websense offers high-performance, highly-scalable web filtering and security to improve employee productivity and reduce legal liability for the ICE division. Patented Websense technology enables organizations to set flexible filtering policies such as time-based quotas, in which organizations set time limits for employee access to non-business-related websites such as travel and shopping.
For broadened protection, the DHS opted to leverage the Websense Security Premium Group™ (PG), which prevents access to malicious websites, phishing and fraud-based websites, and sites infected with harmful spyware such as keyloggers. Security PG complements Websense Enterprise by providing an additional layer of protection against the infiltration of web-based worms and spyware, as well as threats associated with peer-to-peer (P2P) networks and instant messaging (IM).
The award-winning Websense Master database that supports Websense Enterprise software enables automation and enforcement of employee internet usage policies, which may be customized to best serve the requirements of individual organizations. The Websense database includes more than 10 million sites organized into more than 90 categories of internet content in over 50 languages. Websense was recently named to Forbes Magazine’s “Top 25 Technology Companies” list for the second consecutive year and FORTUNE Magazine’s annual list of “America’s Fastest Growing Companies,” ranking number 13 out of the 100 companies listed. In addition, Frost & Sullivan recently selected Websense as the recipient of the 2004 “Frost & Sullivan Market Leadership Award” in the global web filtering market.
Websense software is available for organizations who wish to protect themselves from internet and application security threats.
