Biscuitville Selects SonicWALL to Connect New IP Network18 January 2006
SonicWALL, Inc. (Nasdaq: SNWL) today announced that Biscuitville, Inc., a privately owned fast food retailer with 48 locations in Virginia and North Carolina, has chosen SonicWALL's integrated and managed security solutions to secure Biscuitville's new Internet-based point of sale (POS) and inventory reporting network. SonicWALL partner, Secure Designs, Inc., is currently installing high-performance SonicWALL firewalls, Unified Threat Management (UTM) services and management software to secure POS transactions, protect data exchange and maintain continual access to inventory data. Biscuitville has been serving traditional Southern breakfasts since 1975. The combination of the restaurateur's new networking technology and next-generation POS is helping to increase productivity, reduce costs and generate more revenue. Securely exchanging customer purchase and inventory information, as well as preventing disruption in network connectivity is mission critical. An integrated IPSec VPN enables secure connectivity between each restaurant and corporate headquarters. SonicWALL TZ 170 SP devices provide continuous uptime for VPN connectivity with automated failover and failback capabilities in all 48 Biscuitville restaurants. A SonicWALL PRO 3060 serves as the hub of the security network. The new network is managed by Secure Designs Inc. using SonicWALL's Global Management System (GMS). "Being able to easily monitor the Biscuitville VPN tunnels, coupled with the high level of reporting from the SonicWALL GMS, were key selling points in building SonicWALL into the Biscuitville IP network," says Ron Culler, chief information officer, Secure Designs, Inc. "We're managing and monitoring the SonicWALL Internet security appliances from a central location with a powerful, flexible and intuitive interface. We can configure firewall settings, deploy VPN and incorporate updated gateway anti-virus, anti-spyware and intrusion prevention, complete anti-virus and content filtering with the click of a button. Uniform reporting with SonicWALL is big, too. Other security management systems just aren't as robust. Having continual insight into usage and security event information means we can create better threat defenses and productivity enhancements, freeing up Biscuitville's IT team to adapt other technology and the like, always keeping customers happy." According to David Starmer, corporate IT manager, Biscuitville, "Our strong relationship with Secure Designs, coupled with the SonicWALL products, has vastly simplified the roll-out and management of our new enterprise VPN. This arrangement is giving our lean IT organization an agility we didn't have before. The robustness of the SonicWALL products leaves us with a high level of comfort that we are providing a secure environment. For our IT staff, simple administration, monitoring and reporting is just a few mouse clicks away." For more than 30 years, Biscuitville's top quality breakfasts have been a popular morning treat, from Southern Virginia to North Carolina, including the Triad, Research Triangle and surrounding areas. While keeping Southern traditions in mind (the company's biscuits are renowned because they are made from scratch), Biscuitville is eager to incorporate a range of new capabilities, from real-time POS and inventory reporting and customer loyalty programs, to hot spot customer Internet access. "Upgrading to broadband has provided real-time data communications between stores. Not only do we benefit by the real-time flow of information, but our support staff can resolve most application issues remotely," says Starmer. Biscuitville is currently rolling out a SonicWALL TZ 170 SP device in each of its 48 restaurants, with a SonicWALL PRO 3060 Internet Security Platform located in Graham, North Carolina, Biscuitville's headquarters. The SonicWALL TZ 170 SP appliances with dual broadband and dial-up failover, deliver advanced security in each restaurant by integrating support for SonicWALL's Gateway and Firewall Service, delivering real-time protection against viruses, spyware, worms, Trojans and other threats. The PRO 3060 provides secure VPN access, highly reliable network connectivity, powerful performance and flexible, scalable configurability. Scalability is critical as the Southern restaurateur considers adding more network-dependent applications, such as table side or kiosk order entry. Powered by SonicWALL's next-generation SonicOS operating system and deep packet inspection architecture, the PRO 3060 ultimately extends security from the network core with enterprise-class firewall throughput and VPN concentration. "Continuous uptime for our IPSec VPN tunnels was a big concern when we transitioned to broadband," continues Starmer. "We had to know we could process our customer transactions even when there's the occasional disruption of service at one of our restaurants or offices. Should the primary broadband connection go down, the SonicWALL TZ 170 SP devices fail over to an integrated analog modem. Once the broadband connection has been re-established the TZ 170 SPs detect the restored connection and automatically fail back, providing the best possible connectivity. SonicWALL provides this peace of mind." "Today's POS systems provide many important new applications, but also raise new networking and security challenges," concludes Culler (Secure Designs). "SonicWALL is helping retailers meet these challenges to provide the security and reliability that next-generation POS systems require." About Biscuitville, Inc.
